“Nature is a part of my lab. The artist needs isolation. Feeling the magnitude of a landscape forces you to think about our limitations, our horizons and goals and our challenges.”
As well as we feel the need to touch the matter to understand its true essence, for Mónica Sánchez-Robles exists an urgency to draw a photographed scenery to comprehend its lines, its frame, remember the smell, the temperature; and not forget the sensations.
This monochromatic series is composed of 26 watercolours mixed with sand from Iceland. It evokes a scenery that’s left stuck to our memory, a remind that gets so tangible by the material element incorporated. Built as a cahier de voyage, they form a sequence abstract and figurative, leaving the spectator with the liberty of own interpretation.
